I began practising mindfulness in 1985 under the guidance of Theravada Buddhist monks at Harnham, Northumberland, while studying statistics at Newcastle University. What began as curiosity became a daily practice that’s supported me through many of life’s challenges and shaped my approach to teaching and research.
In 2019, I enrolled in a Master’s in Mindfulness-Based Approaches at Bangor University, combining long-term personal practice with an academic understanding of mindfulness and its evidence base. My background in statistics helps me engage critically with the research behind mindfulness, while a year of postgraduate theology study in 2017 at the University of Oxford deepened my appreciation of how contemplative traditions have influenced modern approaches.
I continue to balance teaching and research with leading MBCT sessions for individuals and groups in Sussex and online.
